A man has come under serious attacks and threats from his family as he refuses to bring his son for traditional rites in the Savana Region.

A man identified as Tijani from a royal family in Sirigu, the Savana part of Ghana, where every male-born child is expected to undergo traditional rites to identify if he could be heir to the throne has refused to present his son for the rituals as he thinks it's dangerous and unhealthy.

Tijani who underwent the same ritual as a child has remained adamant about presenting his one year old son and this has set him at loggerheads with his family.

During an interview on one of Ghana's broadcasting network, Tijani bemoaned that the whole process is unhealthy and very dangerous to his son's health and he was even lucky to survive even though he was not chosen to be the heir. He further explained that many children have died throughout the years while participating in this rituals.

With support from his wife, Habiba, Tijani has refused to allow his son to partake in the rituals. His wife travelled to Europe recently with their son and has refused to return to the country in order to protect their son from the aggressive family members who are desperate to take the boy forcibly.

With the boy out of the picture, the family has now turned their attention on Tijani and are pressuring him to produce the boy as they won't leave him in peace until his son has undergone the rituals. “My wife has made it clear she is not returning with our son unless the family changes their mind which they are not ready to.

I may be forced to relocate if the pressure and threats get out of hand. My son's life is more precious to me and I will not allow him to do it, he does not want to be king” Tijani ended.

We may be in a modern era but it seems some people are not ready to let go of their barbaric cultures and continue to indulge in such acts without any fear or remorse.
